Tools for Tracking Terrorists
|
Tools for Tracking Terrorists is a one-day course providing counterterrorist analysts with the right tools and techniques to effectively manage data overflows and make better analyses.
In today’s world, counterterrorist analysts are inundated with information—much of it ambiguous, irrelevant, deceptive, and incomplete. Through this course, participants are taught a variety of visualization tools to help them organize information into meaningful frameworks. Such frameworks are particularly useful if they are actionable, contributing to improved collection, disruption, and prosecution. There are a variety of analytic tools that provide frameworks, and therefore the key is to find one, or several that are appropriate to the problem at hand. Given that most terrorism problems are multidimensional, with financial, organizational, leadership, and other aspects, even if the analyst starts with one tool or approach, he or she is likely to find that using additional techniques will enhance understanding. Many effective tools have a visual component, which helps to summarize data; uncover trends, patterns and correlations, and; recognize gaps. This course addresses the most effective tools, and helps analysts distinguish between which tools are most suited for particular problems.
